Why RP might start school at 10 am next academic year?

YO! Yin Yang YO!
Anyway, this time our poll reached a whooping 72 votes!!! Its 3X more votes than the last poll of only 24 votes! Woohoo!
...
-_-!!! Yeah... 72 votes is nothing compared to our 10000+ student population in RP... sian.

So, here are the collated poll results!!!

Question: Why RP might start school at 10 am next academic year?

A compulsory PE class each week for all guys in the early morning - 34 votes
Give RP students more time to rest well - 7 votes
Beneficial for students living far away from Woodlands - 23 votes
Facilitators themselves can't reach school punctually - 8 votes

Winner is "A compulsory PE class each week for all guys in the early morning".

Edited: Even though the winner is our poll's first choice, but it might not necessary be the case cause RP might have other arrangements for everyone in the coming academic year. Perhaps it might be year 1s come to class in the morning and year 2s & 3s start school later at 10? Then there will be more time and resources for me to play sports without any evil seniors occupying the court in the evening! YAY! Nah... just a guess... =)

Here are some fabulous comments from the general student population, (which is YOU! Yea YOU!)

passerby: can we not have pe in the morning, so tiring. Later we come in class hot and sweaty. it is going to be uncomfortable for us. just my opinion ;D peace

chris: IF pe is really implemented, there will be a shower time after the lesson before your school time.

luiteng: lets say PE is implemented for the whole school in the morning,so are there going to be enough time and shower rooms for us to shower?

chris: should pe be implemented, it will be only for guys. each class will have 1 pe lesson / week. it can be monday or anyother days. So PE lessons will be by class or randomly asorted groups.

chris: shower will be at sports complex. well... watever i said below is just a guess. rp might have other things in mind. =D

luiteng: even if for guys but given the limited no. of shower rooms,i dont tink will be enough for guys rite?..well lets wait for more news for now...

Ishardi: What? School starts 10 am starting next year? I don't believe it! If so, then what time does the lesson ends? Does anyone knows?

yousof: hi Ish, that is just a thought that is not confirmed , year 3 will start at 10am, the guys will come at 830 for napfa training, the class still ends at 430 with shorter breaks

yousof: year1&2 will not be affected though. Then again, this was said to be unconfirmed, u'll get notified in email if anything ;)

I suppose many of the year 3s now know that they have to do some kind of Napfa preparation course in the coming academic year after seeing the news...

Republic Polytechnic's deputy director for office of student and graduate affairs, Mr Wilson Ang, said that to better prepare students for NS, its male Singaporean students will undergo a 26-hour preparatory course.

It would start six to eight months before they take their Napfa tests, he said.

The students will go through physical conditioning to build up muscles, and train for the different stations which they will go through during their Napfa tests.

Mr Ang said: 'We are shifting from the voluntary basis to a more directed approach, where students are arranged by cohort and diploma, and if only a few students from a particular class turn up, the school directors will be informed. But it is still not compulsory for students to attend.'

Should RP Student Council help promote PBL 2?

Here are the collated poll results!!!

Question: Should RP Student Council help promote PBL?
Yes, good to have year 1s adapting PBL - 2 votes
Yes, collaborate X-Synthesis Club - 13 votes
Yes, so RPSC can build good relations with Higher Management - 3 votes
No, stick to welfare initiatives - 6 votes

Result:

Yes = 18 votes
No = 6 votes

Winner is YES!!!

Here are some fabulous comments from the general student population, (which is YOU! Yea YOU!)

@men: mi thgths are... bring in Student Ambassador and allow them more position in spreading the message across national level about RP's PBL. so student wont have cultural shock when they come in.

=): but if we were to include lectures in our everyday-learning, won't it be the same as the other polys already? in this way, we won't be making a difference already.

late: also, just becoz rp is PBL, rp doesnt provide language modules which other polys are having.

late: yeah. rp is learning with a difference. but total learning with PBL is not encouraged. i feel that a combination with lecture would be better as we could have better understanding on the topic itself.

...: Can't we just lecture style but have to do presentation to show our understanding?

rEk: that''s what Learning with a Difference is all about, that's what the 5th newest Polytechnic has got to offer, so PBL still rocks! Believe in your own school.

al: rp shld just stick to mainstream learninq system with tutorials& lectures instead of th mundane PBL

So... is RP Student Council going to collaborate with X-Synthesis Club to promote PBL to new year 1 students? Well, just stay tuned to our upcoming activities and you see the answer! ;P

Should RP Student Council help promote Problem - Based Learning?

Well... yup! See the title.

A RP higher management staff asked me a very simple question while we were chatting away.

The situation is this, as we all know most new incoming year 1 students will likely have problems adapting to RP's PBL system from their usual lecture-based secondary schools.
Result: C grades everyday, Labeled "happy-go-lucky slacker", I-noe-but-dont-share selfish dude, "I hate RP" written all over the face.

Since RP student council is the highest power student body & representation in the student union, shouldn't RP student council help the school to blend the new incoming year 1 students into RP PBL system easily & improve their PBL mentality?

Some quick information,
RP Student Council - welfare initiatives for all RP students.
CED X-Synthesis Club - promotes PBL pedagogy.

So... What Do You Think?
